The U.S. Navy warship USS John S. McCain docked at Tien Sa Port of Danang Province on Tuesday for a four-day Vietnam visit to mark the 15th anniversary of U.S.-Vietnam relations.
The guided missile destroyer carries a crew of 270 sailors who will visit and make cultural exchanges in the province.
Commander Jeffrey J. Kim, captain of the USS John S. McCain, said in a news conference on Tuesday that the visit helped to strengthen the friendship and bilateral relationship between the two countries. He added that the U.S. and Vietnam also shared interests in maritime security.
“The visit becomes more meaningful in the year when the U.S. and Vietnam are celebrating the 15th anniversary of the two countries’ diplomatic ties. We will have a sea rescue exercise with Vietnamese Navy on the occasion of the visit,” said the commander.
